So, assuming the world doesn’t get its shit together and have a total change of heart/mindset and become totally sustainable, maybe we in Vermont can have our own little sustainable nation (unless of course the entire biosphere is shot to shit in which case we’re all fucked anyway). So I think our best bet is to separate from the US and build a giant wall around Vermont to protect against the giant hordes of hungry people once peak oil hits. Sure, that sounds pretty brutal. But we can’t allow ourselves to overrun the land. If we let millions of people in, were all screwed. At least let’s save ourselves, and once we have our own little sustainable nation, we can help others acheive similar solutions.

AFAIK the jury is still out on what the most advanced sustainable society looks like. Certainly Native Americans were living sustainably. But can we be sustainable and still have electricity? Running water? Can solar panels and fuel cells be produced 100% sustainably? Can computers be made sustainably?
